Lesbian Entertainment Gossip and News
The English National Opera will host the stage premiere of The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant tonight, the first all female, lesbian opera.
I've seen the film version of The Bitter Tears by director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. "They" say it's a study of loneliness and obsession.
A Lesbian fashion designer is betrayed when her female lover leaves her for a man. A lurid and highly stylized account of the mangled web of domination, sadomasochism and alternating jealousy among three lesbians. Set amidst the music of Verdi and the Platters, the power games revolve around a model (Hanna Schygulla), the mistress of the house and her obsessive maid. Considered by many lesbians as misogynist, it will never be at the top of anyone's "must see" list. Sitting through the movie was bad enough, but an opera?

Remember the lesbian beauty queen from last week? Well, the former queen's sexuality has continued to cause an uproar in the Bahamas, and churches are now organizing "Operation Take Over" type rallies to combat "negative influences". God have mercy on these nasty men!

Lesbian actress Portia De Rossi was once married to a man in the hopes of acquiring a US green card (permission to work in the US). Big deal.
De Rossi, who appeard in Sirens, also says she is hoping for the day when the US permits gay marriages, so that she can wed her lover, Ellen DeGeneres. But Ellen would have to propose!

Imagine Me and You by director Ol Parker played at the Toronto International Film Festival. Standing at the wedding altar, Rachel (Piper Perabo) is about to say "I Do" when she locks eyes with florist Luce (Lena Headey) and decides she would rather do the florist!
Their uplifiting passion for each other awakens all sorts of freedoms in Rachel, and we watch as she navigates the unextected journey through unknown territory.
If it comes to your local film festival or hits the circuit, be sure to catch it.
Piper also starred in Lost and Delirious by Léa Pool. Lena was in Possession by Neil LaBute.
